Robert Ssejjemba

Robert Ssejjemba begins his sixth season in 2019 as the men's soccer coach at University of the Southwest.

In 2018, Ssejjemba guided the Mustangs to a 7-3-1 record in the Red River Athletic Conference, the best Conference record in program history. 

He coached the 2018 RRAC offensive player of the year, All-Conference honoree, and Honorable Mention NAIA All- American, Jack Laurie. Freshman midfield, Antonio Menendez also earned All-Conference first team honors. 

In 2015, Ssejjemba guided the Mustangs to an 11-6 record - the most wins for the program in at least the previous 10 years - and an appearance in the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament championship match. The same season also marked the first time the Mustangs finished above .500 since 2005 and its second postseason appearance since 2009. 

Ssejjemba had two players earn All-RRAC honors in 2015 with forward Edrian Negrete getting first-team honors while midfielder Edgar Negrete was named to the second team. Edrian Negrete was also named an Honorable Mention NAIA All-American. 
The program has qualified for post season competition three out of the last four seasons - 2015, 2017, 2018.

A native of Uganda, Ssejjemba spent the five years prior to USW at Virginia Intermont - an NAIA Division I institution and member of the Appalachian Athletic Conference. In 2008, Ssejjemba helped resurrect the Cobra soccer team and built the program from the ground up. Under his guidance, the Cobras finished Appalachian Athletic Conference runners up in 2012 and 2013.

As a member of the Virginia Intermont soccer team, Ssejjemba was named an NAIA All-American and helped lead the Cobras to national tournament appearances in 2000 and 2003. Along with his collegiate playing career, Ssejjemba has competed at some of the highest levels on the pitch. From 1999 to 2006 he was part of the Uganda National Team and competed in the 2006 World Cup Qualifying matches. In 2006 he was part of the DC United, a Major League Soccer club in Washington, D.C. He also spent three years in the USL Pro League where he earned a league MVP, scoring championship, and goal scoring championship all in the same season while winning the USL Pro Championship.
