D'Angelo Garcia

D’Angelo Garcia enters his 4th season as the Head Women’s Soccer Coach for the Mustangs.

Garcia was promoted to full-time Head Coach effective immediately after the conclusion of the 2018 season. Prior to his interim role, Garcia served as the Graduate Assistant Coach for the Men’s Soccer Program at University of the Southwest for the 2017 season. During his tenure with the Men’s Soccer Program, under the guidance of Robert Ssejjemba, Garcia helped the team complete a 9-5-3 record (6-2-2 conf.), placing a top 6 position in the conference tournament. As his main duties, Garcia helped train the goalkeepers as well as individual training sessions with the forwards. Garcia’s training helped the goalkeepers produce Red River Athletic Conference recognition throughout the season earning RRAC’s Defensive Player of the Week awards creating shutout after shutout. 

As Interim Head Coach for the Women’s Soccer Team, Garcia lead the Lady Mustang’s to a winning percentage above .500 with a 9-8 record securing top-6 in the conference, and placing in the conference tournament his very first year. Throughout his first season, he developed first-team all-conference and second team all-conference players, each of those being attacking forwards. He also helped produce RRAC’s Offensive Player of the Week throughout his first season.   Under the helm of Garcia, the Lady Mustangs finished 5th in the conference in goals per match (2.19) and 4th in assists per match (1.19).

Prior to his arrival at USW, Garcia was a member of the Wayland Baptist Men’s Soccer Program helping the program win it’s very first regular season and conference championship his senior year, placing the program’s first berth into the National Tournament. Some of the awards that Garcia earned during his time at WBU include “Most Improved Player” but most importantly Academic All-Conference upon his departure. Garcia earned an Exercise and Sport Science degree in Kinesiology.

A former New Mexico native (Artesia, NM), Garcia currently resides in Hobbs, NM. He is also obtaining his Master’s in Business Administration with an emphasis on Sports Management and Recreation degree. He also holds a USSF Coaching License.
