HOBBS, N.M. – University of the Southwest downed Huston-Tillotson 25-12, 22-25, 26-24, 25-23 on Senior Day Saturday afternoon at the Maddox Student Life Center.
 
"The team played smart and as a cohesive unit," USW head coach Angela Franke said. "Every player contributed in the win. I'm so proud of how the entire team came together today. They never lost sight of the finish line and they were able to have fun while doing it."
 
The tandem of seniors Ashley Preuss and Shelby Bartley kept HTU (17-6, 9-2 RRAC) off balance.
 
Preuss finished with a team-high 13 kills and added two solo blocks and an assisted block. Meanwhile, Bartley added 10 kills and a solo and assisted block.
 
"Seniors Shelby Bartley, Ashley Preuss and Jennifer Garcia put constant pressure on the HT's defense as well as putting multiple stops to HT's offense with effective and perfectly-timed blocks," added Franke.
 
Sophomore Brenda Pargas added 22 assists and four digs and a kill.
 
Junior Miranda Tapia chipped in with six kills and six digs.
 
Senior Karina Grajeda added 17 digs from the libero position.
 
USW (11-12, 6-5 RRAC) returns to action next week at Southwestern Christian and a RRAC contest at Langston.
