HOBBS, N.M. - University of the Southwest baseball split the last two games of the weekend series against conference member Texas College, dropping the opener 4-3 and cruising to a 9-0 win in the night cap at The Jake.

On the bump for game one was senior
Axel Arrieta. The El Paso, Texas native pitched five innings, allowed seven hits, walked two and fanned six batters.

Relieving Arrieta in the sixth inning was freshman
David Flores. Flores pitched three innings, allowed two hits and struck out two batters.

Sam Moreno drilled a solo homerun to left-center field in the third inning. Moreno went 1-for-3 from the plate, adding one RBI and one run.Â

Kenny Corona went 4-for-4 and added two runs, while
PJ Sanchez went 1-for-3.Â

Alex Goodman. The Gilbert, Ariz. native pitched six innings and allowed only one hit, no walks and fanned seven batters.Â

Marvin Ortiz. Ortiz allowed one hit and struck out two batters.

Ben Tingen went 3-for-4 at the plate while scoring three runs for the Mustangs.Â
