HOBBS, N.M. - University of the Southwest baseball team dropped a tough non-conference game against NCAA Division II University of Texas of the Permian Basin 8-3 Wednesday afternoon.
Starting for the Mustangs was junior
Ben Tingen. The Las Cruces, N.M. native allowed five runs, two walks, and four hits. Relieving Tingen in the first inning was senior
Marvin Ortiz. Ortiz pitched three innings and allowed one hit, walked one batter and struck out five batters.
Sophomore
Josiah Acton entered in the fifth inning and allowed a hit. Senior
Aaron Higgins came in the game in the sixth inning and allowed one walk and whiffed three batters. Freshmen
Orlan Warren,
JJ Kruzel and senior
Marvin Galarza closed the game for the Mustangs.

Adrian Rodriguez went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored, while senior
Ean Smith batted 1-for-3 with an RBI. Senior
Chris Estrada went 1-for-4.
The Mustangs return to conference play March 23rd and 24th against University of Houston-Victoria for a three-game series.
