VICTORIA, Texas – University of Houston – Victoria swept University of the Southwest baseball 12-6 and 12-3 Saturday afternoon in a Red River Athletic Conference doubleheader.
With the setbacks, the Mustangs fall to 14-16 overall and 3-9 in conference play, while UHV improved to 8-20 overall and 4-8 in conference action.
In game one USW opened a 4-1 fourth-inning lead, however, the Jaguars scored 11 runs over the course of the final three innings.
Senior
Kenny Corona batted 2-for-3 with a home run and a pair of runs batted in. Sophomore
Jesus Chavez went 1-for-3 with two RBI and senior
Ean Smith batted 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored two runs.
Junior
Kevin Whitaker earned the start and absorbed the no decision. The El Paso, Texas native tossed 3 1/3 innings and scattered four hits and allowed five runs and three walks and struck out three batters. Freshman
JJ Kruzel entered in relief and was tagged with the loss. The Lil Elm, Texas product threw 1 2/3 innings and allowed four hits and four runs.
In the nightcap UHV used a four-run fourth inning to put the game out of reach.
Senior
Adrian Rodriguez batted 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run. Senior
Chris Estrada entered as a pinch-hitter and promptly added an RBI.

Axel Arrieta absorbed the loss. The El Paso, Texas product threw 5 2/3 innings and scattered six hits and allowed six runs (four earned) and five walks and struck out three.
USW returns to action next weekend with a three-game series versus RRAC rival Wiley at Jake Williams Field.
