HOBBS, N.M. – University of the Southwest softball competed in the rate triple header Wednesday afternoon and defeated LSU – Alexandria 3-1 and 5-2 and suffered an 8-0 setback.
With the win USW improved to 7-12 overall and 3-5 in Red River Athletic Conference.
In the series finale, the Mustangs relied on the bat of sophomore
Monika Madrid. The Carlsbad, New Mexico native batted 2-for-3 with three RBI. Senior
Lynette Nikolao and junior
Chelsea Carroll each added an RBI.
Junior
Gabby Heckmann earned the win in the circle. The Cannon Falls, Minnesota tossed six innings and scattered four hits and allowed two runs (two unearned) and no walks and a struck out.
In game two freshman
MyKaya Olivas shut down the LSUA offense. The Roswell, N.M. native threw a complete game and scattered six hits and allowed one run (not earned) and no walks.
Nikolao batted 1-for-3 with a pair of runs batted in, while junior
Madylin Matthys added an RBI.
In game one LSUA (12-9, 5-3 RRAC) held USW to two hits and cruised to the win.
USW returns to action this weekend with a four-game series against Huston-Tillotson at Baker Field.
