DALLAS, TX---The Mustang Soccer program traveled to Dallas on Thursday to take on Paul Quinn College in their first conference match away from Hobbs all season. The Mustangs were unable to overcome two 1st half goals by the Tigers and dropped the match 5-3. The loss drops the Mustang record to 2-10 on the season and 2-4 in conference play.
"Today's game was a game we were ready to come out and play. We were down 2-0 in the half and we got one early in the second half. Elton came in as a sub and absolutely changed the game for us." said Head Coach
Edgar Negrete. " Paul Quinn had another good chance and went up 3-1 on us. A couple minutes after the third goal we got a red card which really affected us. It brought us down as a team and killed the momentum. We only had 10 players and we were still fighting. We were lucky enough to have Elton get a hat tick and Tony (Menendez) play to the best to his ability which gave us some fire, but we still came up short. We have an opportunity to make it to the tournament. The team knows what's at stake and I know the team will be playing for each other."
Elton Tettey netted his first career hat trick for the Mustangs with all goals coming in the 2nd half. Tettey scored early in the 2nd half to cut the lead to 2-1, but the Mustangs would allow two more goals in the 71st and 77th minutes. Tettey would complete the hat trick with goals in the 81st and 90th minute.
The Mustangs travel to Texarakana Saturday to take on the Texas A&M Texarkana Eagles (5-8-2/1-4-1) with kickoff scheduled for 3:30 PM CST
