Box Score HOBBS, NM---The Men's Soccer program put their 2-0 conference record to the test as they welcomed Huston-Tillotson to Hobbs. The Rams defeated the Mustangs 3-2 in a match that went down to the very last second.
"Today was a game that we were hoping for a different result. We started off really slow. We got our rhythm a little too late. We allowed two quick goals and that really threw the boys off. They were shocked with the outcome and were trying to pick up the pieces. In the second half we played exactly like we know how to play. We had many opportunities to put the ball away and we couldn't find the back of the net. Losing this game is a game that can affect us in the future of making the tournament. Every game matters in conference because of how competitive our conference is. You never know what's going to happen. We are going to face two very good teams next week. So we have to come back Monday and train harder to be able to compete with two of the top teams in our conference. This loss hurts but it just means we have to get focus and know what's at stake and come out ready to play." said Head Coach
Edgar Negrete following Saturday's loss.
The Rams had a 2-0 lead entering the 2nd half, but the Mustangs were able to answer with two of their own goals.
Julian Sosa scored in the 56th minute off an assist from
Alan Sanchez.
Luis Calvillo scored a late goal in the 87th minute, but it was not enough to tie the game.
The Mustangs are back at home this week as they take on Houston-Victoria on Thursday afternoon starting at 3:30 PM MST.
