GOODWELL, OK---The Mustang Basketball program took on the Oklahoma Panhandle State Aggies on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference matchup. The Mustangs took down the Aggies 82-67. The win brings the Mustangs record back to .500 at 2-2.
Head Coach
Cory Hitchcock was very happy with the way the young men played on Saturday. "It feels good to snap our 2 game losing streak. The last two days, we got back to the basics and focused on the little things and that's the reason we were successful today. We needed that win to get us back on track and refocused on the big picture. I am proud of all the guys, but the bigs really stepped up today. To have three of them with double-doubles shows the impact they had on the game. The guards did a good job feeding them the ball and putting them in position to score. This was a great team win and everyone did their part to help us get the W. Now it's time to put our focus towards Wayland Baptist. We have one of the best teams in the country coming to our place and we need to be ready to go. I know the guys are excited for the opportunity and it will be a great test for our team."
The Mustang big men had a huge impact on the game and the stat book. Forwards
Alex Pena (FR),
Emmanuel McNeil (JR) and
Joshua Harris (SR) all had double-doubles in the game. The true freshman Pena led the team in scoring with 19 points and 10 rebounds. McNeil had 17 points and a team-leading 13 rebounds in 33 minutes of action. Senior
Joshua Harris had another great all-around night as he had 14 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals and 1 block.
Senior
Akeem Black scored in double figures with 11 points and also had 3 assists and 3 rebounds in 29 minutes of action.
The Mustangs host their home opener on Tuesday night as they welcome in the 3rd ranked Wayland Baptist Pioneers to the Maddox Student Life Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM MST.
