Mustangs Lose Another 1-run Ballgame

The Mustang baseball program took to the field on Tuesday afternoon and lost another close ball game. It was the Mustangs first road game of the season as they traveled to Odessa, TX to take on University of Texas-Permian Basin. The 4-3 loss puts their record at 4-5 on the season and makes it their 3rd 1-run loss of the season. The Mustangs have held the lead or tie in all 5 of their losses this season.

Senior lefthander Ben Tingen took the ball on the mound for the Mustangs and threw the best game of his career. Tingen went 7 innings allowing 2 earned runs while striking out 4 Falcon batters. Tingen was able to keep the Falcon hitters off balance with a combination of his fastball and changeup. "I went out there today and really just focused on having fun and enjoying the game I was playing. I worked the outer half with a good mix of fastball & changeup. That made the curveball that much more effective." Tingen had to say following his 7-inning performance.

The offense jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after the top of the 1st courtesy of a Tariq Levesque homerun with the bases loaded. The only issue was that Levesque passed Galindo rounding the bases which resulted in the 3 runners scoring and Levesque being called out. But the Mustang offense disappeared for the following 8 innings as they failed to score and extend their lead.

The Falcons pushed 2 runs across in the bottom of the 7th inning to take the 4-3 lead.

Carlos Baldenegro came in for relief in the bottom of the 8th inning and retired all 3 batters that he faced.

"I thought we came out focused but it appeared that we just got frustrated every inning thereafter. We still are close to being a very good team, we just need to relax and do our thing offensively.  We are simply beating ourselves at the plate right now, plain and simple. It's just a matter of time before we put things together offensively and when that happens we are going to be a tough team to beat.  However, I was extremely pleased with how Ben Tingen and freshmen EJ Rendon worked together today.  Midweek games are usually tough on the mound, but today Tingen had his A-game. We will get back to work tomorrow and continue to get our guys ready for this weekend."
