Hobbs, NM - After having not played a game in nearly two weeks due to weather postponements, the Lady Mustangs hosted Houston-Victoria over the weekend in a 3-game conference showdown. Houston-Victoria, who sits in first place currently, took advantage of the rustiness displayed by the Lady Mustangs as they took all three games by a score of 8-1, 13-0, and 9-0. The losses brings the Lady Mustangs record to 1-5 in conference and 3-16 overall.
GAME 1 (UHV 8 - USW 1)
The first game of the series saw the Lady Mustangs struggle on both sides of the ball. Senior
Gabby Heckmann got the start where she went all 7 innings giving up 10 hits, 8 runs, while also getting 5 strikeouts. The offensive side was almost non existent as the Lady Mustangs could only produce 4 hits in the game. The lone run came in the 5th inning after a triple by Sophomore
Madison Rosenthal followed by an RBI single to right by Freshman
Mariah Garcia.
GAME 2 (UHV 13 - USW 0)
The second game of the series was no different then the first. The Lady Mustangs offense was no where to be found as they only produce one hit in 5 innings. That lone hit came from Junior
Monika Madrid. The Lady Mustangs had no answer for Houston-Victoria's powerful offense as they busted out 19 hits in the contest.
GAME 3 (UHV 9 - USW 0)
In the finale of the series the Lady Mustangs could not figure out UHV's pitching or offense once again. The Lady Mustangs dropped in 3 hits in 6 innings as opposed to UHV's 12 hits. The bright spot of the offense was
Gabby Heckmann who went 2-3 on the day with a double.
