Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Jacob Jarreau

WBB:Lady Mustangs can't keep up with LSU-A in 2nd half

HOBBS, NM---The Women's Basketball program took on LSU-Alexandria on Saturday afternoon in a RRAC matchup. This contest marks the end of the first half of their conference schedule. Despite having a 9 point lead after the 1st quarter, the Lady Mustangs were unable to keep up their offensive pressure for the final 3 quarters and fell to LSU-A 72-57.

"We played a great quarter and a half. Looking at the stats, I think we outplayed them. We are growing as a team. We are just trying to compete right now, now it's about getting over the hump and beat these top-tier teams in the conference." said Head Coach Devonte Brewer

Harlei Haceesa led the Mustangs in scoring with 14 points on 5-13 shooting from the field. Mykal Thomas added 12 points of her own in 30 minutes of play. Thomas also had 6 rebounds and 3 assists in the game. Isabel Rodriguez recorded another double-double Saturday with 11 points and 10 rebounds. This was Rodriguez's 7th double-double on the season. She is currently averaging a double-double for the entire season. "We take her for granted at times. She has played at such a high-level even in her off games. We wouldn't be where we are at without her, but we need to start giving her some help." said Coach Brewer

The loss brings the Lady Mustangs record to 6-12 overall and 3-6 in conference play. The Mustangs are on the road for their next three contests as they play Huston-Tillotson (1/30), Our Lady of the Lake (2/1) and Paul Quinn (2/8) before they head back for their final home weekend against Texarkana and Wiley.
