BSB: Adams St sweeps Day 2 of doubleheader

ALAMOSA, CO---The Mustang Baseball program finished their weekend series against Adams State on Saturday with games 3 & 4 of the series. The Mustangs dropped both games on Saturday and saw their record drop to 4-8 on the season.

"For the most part, our guys competed this weekend. We hit well but we just didn't pitch it the way we would have liked. Overall it's an obstacle we can learn from that should make us tougher when conference rolls around. This was the 1st time most of our guys played 7600 feet elevation and obviously the frigid temps were not something we are used to this time of the year. We will get back to work Monday and refocus for Wayland Baptist on Tuesday and a good Bethany team this weekend." said Head Coach Steve Appel following the weekend series.

GAME 3
Adams State 12---USW 9

Despite the offense pushing 9 runs across, it was not enough as the Grizzlies used big 3rd and 4th innings to take the lead and they never looked back. The Mustangs had the tying run on deck in the final inning, but were unable to mount a 5 run comeback in the 7th like Adams State did in Game 1 of the series. Luis Castillo, Tariq Levesque and Jacob Harris each had 2 hits in the game. Levesque drove in 4 runs and scored 2 of his own. Luis Castillo and Bobby Galindo each scored 3 runs of their own to lead the charge.

Orlan Warren got the start on the mound and was unable to make it out of the 4th inning as he allowed 8 hits, 6 runs and 2 walks in 3 innings of work. Isaac Baeza, Saliel Rivera and Eddie Varela III came in for relief of Warren and allowed 6 runs and 7 walks.

GAME 4
Adams State 9---USW 5

Freshman AJ Cordova got the start in Game 4 in his home state of Colorado. Cordova lasted 3 1/3 inning allowing 7 runs on 7 hits and 2 walks. Cordova took the loss for the Mustangs as he allowed his first runs of the season. Nick Martinez and Isaiah Montoya finished out the final 2 2/3 innings allowing only 2 runs.

The offense was never able to get into a rhythm in Game 4 as they only had 7 hits. Bobby Galindo was the only Mustangs with multiple hits as he blasted a ball deep over the RCF field for his 1st home run of the year.

The Mustangs are back at home this week as they play host to Wayland Baptist on Tuesday afternoon and Bethany College on Friday/Saturday. Tuesday's game starts at 2:00 PM MST.
