ALEXANDRIA, LA---The Lady Mustangs played their 4th game of the week on Saturday afternoon as they played LSU-Alexandria in a RRAC matchup. The Lady Generals outscored USW 45-26 in the 2nd half, which proved to be enough.
"Today we got beat on the boards. We were outrebounded by 15 and gave up 56 points in the paint. That's not going to help us be successful. We need to rebound better moving forward. We won the 2nd quarter by taking care of the ball and getting stops. But the 3rd quarter, we couldn't get stops or finish on the defensive side of things. We just have to learn from this and move on to the next game. Hopefully we can play better on Monday" said Head Coach
Devonte Brewer following Saturday's loss.
USW held a 42-36 lead entering the half, but saw it slip away after allowing 30 points in the 3rd quarter. The Lady Mustangs were led by
Isabel Rodriguez who scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for another double-double. Freshman
Abigail Olivas scored 16 points in 36 minutes of play. Olivas was 7-11 from the field and grabbed 4 rebounds. Transfer
Brenda Costa had her best game of the season with 11 points off the bench.
The Lady Mustangs were 3-24 from the 3-point line. Coach Brewer wants his girls to understand that if the shots aren't falling for you, you need to help out in another facet of the game. "I told them at the end of the game, when shots aren't falling for you, you need to find another way to impact the game"
USW is back in action on Monday night as they play University of North Texas-Dallas in a non-conference matchup.
