The University of the Southwest Cross Country Teams competed in the RRAC Championships on Friday Morning. The RRAC Championships were hosted by Our Lady of the Lake University at Windcrest Golf Club in Windcrest, TX. The Championships were the culmination of the Cross Country season for all the members of the RRAC. The men's side of the event was filled with members from six conference schools, while on the women's side there were four schools represented. The men participated in an 8,000-meter race (8k) and the women in a 5,000-meter race (5k). As a team, the men finished 2
nd overall and the women finished in 3
rd.
The Mustangs were able to qualify three individuals for the 2021 NAIA National Championships that will take place in Vancouver, Washington on November 19
th. The three Mustangs that qualified for nationals were a trio of freshmen:
Samantha Jasso,
Guadalupe Garcia, and
Armando Hernandez. Jasso was also named all-conference for her performance in Windcrest. She finished 3
rd overall, with a time of 20:21 and an average mile of 6:33.
Guadalupe Garcia finished with a time of 28:18 and an average mile of 5:41.
Armando Hernandez didn't finish too far behind his teammate, with a time of 28:59 and an average mile of 5:49.

Tony Skiles quoted the great Michael Jordan after the meet saying "If you do the work, you get rewarded. There are no shortcuts in life." These three Mustangs definitely put the work in this Fall and now will be rewarded with a trip to nationals.
