MBB: #21 LSU-Alexandria defeats Mustangs

ALEXANDRIA, LA---The USW Mustangs took on LSU-Alexandria on Thursday night for the 3rd time in 10 days. Despite keeping things close through the first 30 minutes, #21 LSU-Alexandria pushed through the final 10 minutes to defeat USW 82-63.

"I thought we played great in the first half.  We were great on our defensive rotations, boxed out well, moved the ball and controlled the tempo of the game.  In the second half we looked good at times but down the stretch we were a little selfish and didn't play great as a team.  For us to be successful, it's important we utilize each other and work together.  I love the improvement this group is making each game.  We are so close to playing and competing for a full 40 minutes.  When we do, we will have a positive result" said Head Coach Cory Hitchcock following Thursday night's game.

A great addition to the team this offseason was transfer Tae Brown. The 6'4" forward has been a scoring threat night in and night out, and Thursday night he led the Mustangs in scoring with 17 points on 7-11 shooting. "Tae has been a great addition to our program.  He brings a little bit of everything to our team.  He is very active defensively and crashes the boards hard.  He is a guy I trust and have a hard time pulling off the floor.  We have really been pushing him to be a lot more aggressive offensively the last couple of games and it's good to see him respond.  He is just now starting to get comfortable within the system but we knew he would be a special player for us." said Hitchcock on his transfer.

Collin Hill was the other Mustang in double-digits with 15 points on 5-8 shooting from the floor including four 3-pointers. JC Roundtree led the team in rebounding with 9 rebounds in 18 minutes.

Despite an 0-11 record on the season, Head Coach Cory Hitchcock has been very impressed with the growth of his program over the last 3 weeks. "We have made great strides over the last 3 weeks.  We are getting better defensively and we are starting to gain more confidence on offense.  We have the fourth toughest schedule in NAIA and each game the guys show up and compete for at least one half.  With that being said, I am really looking for us to put a complete game together.  Once we do that, I feel like we will take off and really get going.  The guys spirits have been high and they have stayed positive during this time which is good.  They see the potential and know we are close, so they just keep working hard and continue to focus on improving as an individual player and team" said Hitchcock.
