The University of the Southwest volleyball team opened up conference play this past week and did so in an impressive fashion. They were able to secure victories over Texas College and Jarvis Christian College on a neutral floor in Dallas as part of the RRAC Roundup. They won both matches convincingly by the score of 3-0. Against Texas College, they won by set scores of 25-8, 25-9, and 25-7. Against Jarvis, they won by set scores of 25-20, 25-20, and 25-18. This brings the Lady Mustangs record to 4-8 on the year and 2-0 in conference play.
Regarding the weekend, Head Coach
Cass Smith said "Overall it was a good showing for our first conference outing, but we are not satisfied. Got a chance to see our competitors in action so we are rejuvenated and very excited moving forward. Hard work ahead of us, just have to put pen to paper now."
Some of the key performers from the weekend were
Autumn Lopez,
Isabella Molina, and
Alissa Mancera.
Autumn Lopez recorded 26 digs for the weekend and 1 ace.
Isabella Molina had 3 kills against TX College hitting .500 and 6 kills, 1 error, on 12 attempts against Jarvis hitting .416.
Alissa Mancera recorded 32 assists for the weekend, 1 ace, and 9 digs.
The Lady Mustangs will be back in action at home this evening against Sul Ross State at 5:00 PM. They will take on Oklahoma Panhandle State at home tomorrow at 5:00 PM as well. These are non-conference contests but the Lady Mustangs will look to keep their momentum from the weekend going.
