Austin, TX – USW Men's Soccer (3-4-4, 2-1-4 RRAC) took on Huston-Tillotson University (HTU) (7-4, 5-3 RRAC) to wrap up their two-game road trip in Texas. The Mustangs are currently still holding onto a playoff spot and were looking to improve their chances for postseason play against a strong Ram squad.
The first half did not see much action until HTU's Jommar Reyes found the back of the net in the 13
th minute off an assist from Brian Medina.
Huston-Tillotson got the start they were looking for and aimed to improve their 3-2 record at home. The Rams continued to put some pressure on the Mustang defense and put Graduate Student
Aaron Servin to the test during both halves. Neither side could capitalize on chances in the first half, which ended with HTU up 1-0.
The second half began similarly to the first, with both teams keeping one another off the scoreboard. It would be the Rams of Huston-Tillotson that would strike the first blow of the half once again when Jommar Reyes now provided the assist for a Nicolas Viader-Crespo goal in the 63
rd minute.
Huston-Tillotson continued to play defense that would stifle the Mustang offense and leave their keeper only needing to make one save on the day. Unfortunately, USW could not push through, and the score ended at 2-0.
"Today's game wasn't the best game we played," stated Coach
Edgar Negrete. "The energy was low, and we started late. It wasn't the best game or the start that we have had, and it's time to reflect and see what we can do for us to see a playoff spot. We got our first loss in conference play, and I think that it's a reality check, and it tells us that if we don't come out with energy, we can be watching the playoffs game from the outside instead of being part of them. We have a lot to play for; we must come out and play. If we expect to win, we can't have low energy and slow starts."
USW Men's Soccer will gear up for another road trip, this time to Louisiana, where they will play Louisiana State University Alexandria on October 20
