Although it was a tough game, Coach Edgar Negrete had words for his seniors following their final game as a Lady Mustang.
Unfortunately, our season came to an end today," said Coach Negrete. "I will be honest; my heart breaks for these girls. I feel like we face so many obstacles throughout the season. We started slowly today but picked it up in the second half. We created some chances that could have changed the game. Texarkana is a good team and all respect to them for winning the game and clinching first. I will miss the seniors that we had this year. They were tremendous players it will be hard to replace them, but I am forever grateful for their dedication to the program. I sit here and think about the beginning of the season, and man, what a ride it was. We faced so many obstacles, and we overcame so many of them. These girls were fighters, and they fought till the very end of the season. That's all I can ask for. I am super proud of the season the girls had. I'm grateful to be their coach, and honestly, it was a lot of work coaching both teams this year but working with the girls was a blessing. They taught me a lot, and all I can say is thank you to the women's soccer team because they helped me grow as a coach, and this experience will only help me be a better coach for them in the future.
"To my seniors, I will miss them, but I'm thankful for their hard work, dedication, and leadership on and off the field. It was a pleasure coaching them in their final season. Also, we had numerous parents support us throughout the year, and I want to thank them for welcoming us into the women's program. We had many parents' support, so that was a great feeling. With the season over, we get to recruiting and work on rebuilding and making our team bigger and stronger."
The Lady Mustangs will look to bounce back and become a force within the RRAC when they return next season.
