The University of the Southwest Women's Basketball traveled for two RRAC conference games on the road. The Lady Mustangs dropped both contests, the first coming on Thursday against Texas A&M-Texarkana and the other on Saturday versus Paul Quinn College.
Texas A&M-Texarkana
USW (2-7, 0-3 RRAC) took on a tough Texas A&M-Texarkana (8-1, 4-0 RRAC) squad who were coming into the contest undefeated in conference play. Southwest was looking for their first win in conference as they went into the weekend.
The Eagles of Texarkana got off to a hot start in the first quarter, with the offense firing on all cylinders, allowing them to get off to a 24-8 start. Texarkana maintained that form through the second quarter as they outscored the Lady Mustangs and led 43-24 at the half. The third quarter brought some more of the same as Texarkana continued to dominate in this game, with the third quarter ending at 62-36. The Eagles put the exclamation mark in the fourth quarter and defeated Southwest 87-50.
Junior
Brianna Ford led Southwest with 14 points. Seniors
Sierra Smith and
Awreona Ransom scored 10 points apiece.
Paul Quinn
On Saturday, Southwest (2-8, 0-4 RRAC) took on Paul Quinn College (2-2, 2-2 RRAC) for their second conference matchup of the week. This would wrap up the Lady Mustangs' first conference road trip of the season.
As the first quarter began, the defenses for both sides played well, resulting in a low scoring first with Paul Quinn taking the early lead, 13-10. The game stayed tight, with the Tigers continuing to stay ahead, only by a score of 26-22. It was not until the third quarter that Paul Quinn would be able to create a slight separation from USW with a 15-8 quarter. The fourth quarter was much tighter for the Lady Mustangs, but the Tigers were able to stay out in front to seal a victory, 59-47.
Senior
