MBB: Mustangs Take Two RRAC Games

The University of the Southwest Men's Basketball program took on two conference opponents this past week and were able to collect wins in both contests. They took on Huston-Tillotson on Thursday evening and Our Lady of the Lake University on Sunday afternoon with both contests being played at home.

The Rams from HT entered the contest at (3-5) in RRAC play and the Mustangs entered (2-5) in conference games. The Mustangs were in control for most of the contest taking a 47-37 lead to the half and won the game by the final of 86-72. The Mustangs were on fire from deep shooting 44% from three on 11 of 25 and dominated the glass outrebounding the Rams 46 to 34. USW showcased a balanced offensive attack in the contest with four players scoring 16 or more points. Jeremiah Toney paced the Mustangs with 22 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists. Alvin Thompson poured in 19 points of his own on 7 of 13 from the field. Latarryus Smith added 17 points, 8 rebounds, and four assists. Tae Brown chipped in with 16 points 8 rebounds and 5 assists in the contest. 
 
OLLU
 
The Saints of OLLU entered the contest at (2-5) in conference play and the Mustangs entered off the impressive win Thursday evening. The Mustangs raced out to a big lead in the first half, taking a 42-27 lead to the halftime break. The Saints would not go away though, and the Mustangs held on for a 90-85 victory. The Mustang's defense wreaked havoc in the contest forcing 26 turnovers by the Saints. The Mustangs got to the line and were able to take advantage of their opportunities shooting 76% on 25 attempts at the line. Alvin Thompson led the Mustangs in scoring with 20 points on 6 of 12 from the field and 8 for 8 from the line. Brandon Meadows had a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Jeremiah Toney had 15 points and 6 boards, Latarryus Smith had 13 points, and Tae Brown had 10 points and 7 boards. 
 
The Mustangs now sit at (4-5) in conference play and third place in the West division. They will take on Texas College at home at 5:00 PM tomorrow evening in a game that was postponed earlier this year.
