With another road trip, the University of the Southwest Women's Basketball team was looking to add another win against an RRAC foe from Louisiana. Both games would be rematches from the start of the season. Last matchups, USW fell to Louisiana Christian 65-69 and Xavier (LA.) 72-81.
Louisiana Christian
The Lady Mustangs (3-14, 1-10 RRAC) were looking to start their trip right against a potentially playoff-bound Louisiana Christian University (9-9, 6-5 RRAC). The first quarter started off slow, with LCU scoring 28 points while only responding with 18. LCU adds on another 28 points in the second quarter leading the Mustangs at half 56-30.
After the half, the Stangs pick it up by outscoring LCU in the last two quarters. The third saw USW playing sharper defense than in the first half, as they scored 18 to LCU's 17. Southwest would dominate the fourth quarter by holding the Wildcats to just six points. It would be too late, though, as the Lady Mustangs would fall 79-66.
Junior
Tamaria White led the Lady Mustangs with 13 points and also tacked on three assists. Senior
Sierra Smith recorded herself a double-double on the night with 10 points and 17 rebounds. Senior
Kenedi Tanks also had a solid night with 11 points and four rebounds.
Xavier (LA.)
The Lady Mustangs (3-15, 1-11 RRAC) would take on a strong Xavier University of Louisiana (12-7, 6-5 RRAC) squad for their final game of the road trip. The contest started off in favor of XULA, as the Mustangs would only score 19 points in the first two quarters, while Xavier was able to put up 35 before the second half.
The third and fourth quarters would be low scoring for both squads as the Lady Mustangs would only score 11 in each quarter. The defense would perform well as they held Xavier to just 10 in the third quarter and 11 in the fourth quarter. Southwest would drop their Louisiana finale 56-41.
Senior
Sierra Smith put out another double-double with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Senior
Kenedi Tanks scored six points and had three steals. Sophomore
Abigail Olivas contributed with seven points and five rebounds off the bench.
