MBB: USW Splits on Senior Weekend

The University of the Southwest Men's Basketball were on their last home stand of the year and had to finish it up against two tough opponents in LSUS and LSUA. On Saturday, the Mustangs were able to celebrate each senior as it was their last home game. USW would fall to LSUS 78-62 but bounce back and get a big win on Senior Day against LSUA, 79-71.

Southwest (9-15, 5-12 RRAC) last time matched up against the Pilots (20-6, 14-4 RRAC) in Shreveport and lost the game 76-89.  
The first half saw the Mustangs fall behind quickly as Shreveport was able to work well on offense. This would allow them to get out in front a secure a 43-33 lead going into the half.  
The second half was the same story as the first half, with the Mustangs struggling to get going offensively. Shreveport would continue to play strong on both sides of the ball in the second half, scoring 35 points and holding USW to just 29 points.  USW would drop the first game of their homestand 62-78.
Junior Jahvonta Jones led the way for the Mustangs scoring 15 points, and also helped by grabbing seven rebounds. Junior Miles Macadory added 13 points and seven rebounds of his own.

Southwest (10-15, 6-12 RRAC) Saturday's matchup against the Generals (16-9, 10-7) would be the day the seniors on the team were celebrated for their Mustang careers. 
The Mustangs would find a way to start the game off hot, outscoring LSUA 40-33 and heading into the half in the driver's seat. 
Looking to send the seniors out on a high note for their last home game, the Mustangs played tremendously hard and would not give way to the Generals, who put up a good fight. With another winning half of basketball, outscoring LSUA 39-38 and winning the last game in the Jack & Mabel Maddox Student Life Center of the season and sending the seniors off with a 79-71 win.
Juniors Miles Macadory and Jahvonta Jones would once again be in the lead of the scoring charge for the Mustangs scoring 34 points combined. Senior Tre Thomas would take advantage of the day scoring 13 points and lead the team with seven rebounds.
 
The Mustangs will close out the regular season when they take on Huston-Tillotson on February 18th and Our Lady of the Lake on February 20th. Continue to follow USW Athletics and USW Men's Basketball on all social media for scores and updates throughout the season.
