We did not play our brand of baseball on day one, but the guys responded well the second day to secure at least one win on the weekend. In the DH, nothing went our way, and I just think our guys didn't play with the confidence they usually have. It's something we can learn from and use later down the road.
Game 1
Your USW Mustangs look to continue to find success however they hit a bump in the road when the Texas A&M – Texarkana came to town. In game 1 the Mustangs were unfortunately shut out losing 8-0. Offensively the Mustangs couldn't find a spark, however
Carlos Jaquez-Munoz went 2-3. Aj Cordova got the start going 5 innings.
Angel Rios and
Chisum Rush pitched in relief getting an inning a piece.
Game 2
The Mustangs look to flush game 1 and get back to work however the Eagles were not buying it as the Mustangs got shut out again losing 6-0. Offensively, the Mustangs were held to 3 total hits.
Bryan Vasquez got a pinch-hit opportunity and made the most of it collecting a hit. The Mustangs used 5 different pitchers in this one with
Kobe Carpio getting the start and going 4.1/3 innings.
Taymon Burrola came in going 1.2 innings with a strikeout out while
James Webster,
Miguel Olivas, and
Ian Clements each went an inning.
Game 3
Looking to not get swept the Mustangs came out looking for some offense. The Mustangs put up 4 runs in the first inning and another 4 throughout the rest of the game. However, the Eagles clawed their way back into it when they also put up 4 runs in the 6th inning.
Omar Baldenegro went 3-4 on the day scoring twice as well.
Carson Miller also went 2-4 scoring a run to help the Mustangs take this one 8-7. Issac Baeza got the start on the mound going 5.2 innings while only giving up 2 earned runs.
Angel Rios made an appearance.
Caden Davis got the win in relief going 2.1 innings and striking out 4.
Taymon Burrola got his first save of the year as well.
We will get back to work Monday morning and start preparing for our first road conference series. As always, I'll be excited to work on some things for our upcoming weekend with this club.
