The energy and determination is something we haven't seen since the 1st two weeks of this year. We threw plenty of strikes, played good defense, and had timely hitting all weekend. Going into this weekend, we knew that we had to want it more against a really good ball club and I believe it showed. I'm happy the way the kids came out and played at home. It was fun watching this club play good baseball all weekend long.
Game 1
The Mustangs returned home this week after being on the road for the last 3 weeks to face Louisiana Christian. Game 1 was a pitching duel as
Isaac Baeza took the mound for the Mustangs and pitched a gem throwing a complete game. Baeza went 7 innings giving up 2 earned runs on 3 hits, 3 walks, and 7 strikeouts.
Kevin Rase went 1-2 at the plate while also scoring a run.
Omar Baldenegro went 1-2 with a RBI. The Mustangs took Game 1 with a score of 3-2.
Game 2
The Mustangs look to win the series in Game 2.
Angel Rios got the start going 5.1 innings giving up 6 hits, 3 earned runs, 1 walk, and striking out 5.
Miguel Olivas went 2.1 innings giving up 2 hits, 1 walk, and striking out 4.
Chisum Rush went 1 inning giving up 1 hit and 1 walk. Jeffery Mathis made an appearance. Offensively,
Santiago Garcia went 2-4 with an RBI.
Hayden Woods went 1-3 with an RBI and a walk. However, the Mustangs walked it off with a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth by
Carson Miller on a 3-2 count with 2 outs.
Game 3
The Mustangs already won the series however they now look to go for the sweep. Ian Swearingen got the start and went 7.1 innings giving up 3 hits, and 2 runs while walking 3 and striking out 5.
Taymon Burrola,
Caden Davis, and
Chisum Rush each made an appearance. Brain Ledezma led the offense going 4-6 with an RBI.
Ayden Ramos went 2-2 with an RBI and a walk.
David Amaya also went 2-4 with an RBI and walk. The Mustangs swept the series winning 10-5. They now look to ride their seven-game win streak as they face Wayland Baptist on the road on Tuesday and will be back home for Senior Weekend vs LSU- Alexandria on Friday and Saturday.
We know that we still have work to do and we will be ready to get back to work Monday. We will have another tough midweek game to prepare for next weekend. We will have another quality ball club coming in to Hobbs next weekend and we will need to fine tune some things going in to a crucial senior weekend at home. I'm hopeful these guys have turned the page and eager to play even better Baseball.
