Box Score Hobbs- Thursday August 29th, the University of the Southwest Men's Soccer team (0-0-0) hosted Oklahoma Panhandle State (OPSU) (0-0-0). In what would be their first game of the 2024 season.
The Mustangs opened today's scoring within the opening minutes of the game today. Yahir Chacon scored on an assist from Millaivy Lopez for the Mustangs first goal of the season and the first goal in today's matchup in the 5th minute of the game. That would be all the scoring that happened in todays match and it became a very defensive after that.
After the final buzzer sounded the mustangs finished their opening day matchup victorious beating OPSU 1-0 and moving the mustangs record to 1-0 on the season.
"I feel great after this win. The guys did good and played their hearts out today." said head coach Edrian Negrete. Coach Negrete also stated that his team "was able to keep good composure since we were able to move the ball around well throughout this hard-fought game."
