Hobbs, NM - In a tightly contested match between Xavier and Southwest on September 19, 2024, at Hobbs, NM, Southwest came out on top with a 2-1 victory. The game started off in favor of Southwest, with Yahir Chacon scoring in the opening minute, assisted by Millaivy Lopez. Southwest extended their lead at the 5:18 mark with an unassisted goal by Angel Marban, giving them a 2-0 advantage early in the first half. 

Xavier responded quickly, pulling one back with a goal from Gustavo Oliveira in the 13th minute. Despite several offensive efforts from both teams throughout the match, no further goals were scored in the second half, and the game ended with Southwest holding onto their 2-1 lead. 

Statistically, Xavier outshot Southwest 9-7, but Southwest's goalkeeper Jeremy Rueda stood tall with four saves, while Xavier's Breno Zanolla managed only one save. Xavier also dominated in corner kicks with 8 compared to Southwest's 1, but they could not capitalize on those opportunities. 

Head coach Negrete had these comments after today's matchup "we have been working hard at practice and seeing that hard work paying off is always rewarding, they came out ready to go today and played hard soccer for 90 minutes."
