Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Jonathan Gamboa

Men's drops first game on the road

Southwest (New Mexico) fell short in their matchup against Louisiana Christian on September 26, 2024, with a final score of 4-2 at Wildcat Field. Despite a strong second-half comeback attempt led by Yahir Chacon, who netted both of Southwest's goals, the early four-goal deficit proved too much to overcome.

Louisiana Christian came out aggressively in the first half, scoring all four of their goals before halftime. Adrian Amoros Navarro opened the scoring in the 9th minute with an assist from Lucas Lima. A penalty kick from Sergio Pita Martin in the 19th minute doubled their lead. Shakeem Walters added another in the 25th minute, again assisted by Lima, and Victor Silva made it 4-0 in the 45th minute with help from Tarik Abdala.

Southwest regrouped after the break, and Chacon's two goals, the first unassisted in the 47th minute and the second off a Millaivy Lopez assist in the 54th minute, brought some hope. However, the team couldn't find the net again despite several chances.

The loss was compounded by disciplinary issues, with Southwest accumulating 19 fouls and a red card for Leonardo Cepeda in the 72nd minute, making a comeback even more difficult. Goalkeeper Jeremy Rueda made three saves but struggled to contain Louisiana Christian's efficient attack.

Southwest will need to work on tightening up defensively and maintaining discipline.

They look to bounce back Saturday, September 28th aginst LSU- Alexandria.
