Southwest (New Mexico) suffered a 4-2 defeat against Louisiana Christian in a high-energy matchup on September 26, 2024, at Wildcat Field in Pineville, Louisiana. Despite two goals from Maya Sanchez, Southwest struggled to contain Louisiana Christian's attack, which was spearheaded by Maria Alonso, who contributed three assists.
Louisiana Christian opened the scoring in the 16th minute with Maryane Mafra's goal, assisted by Alonso. Just over ten minutes later, Giselle Laing doubled the lead, with Alonso again providing the assist. A third goal followed in the 28th minute from Daniela Gomez, leaving Southwest trailing 3-0 before the halftime whistle.
Maya Sanchez brought Southwest back into contention with a goal just before the break, and her second goal in the 57th minute cut Louisiana Christian's lead to 3-2. However, Louisiana Christian responded quickly with a goal from Emma Monnet in the 59th minute to restore their two-goal advantage, which proved decisive.
Southwest struggled defensively, managing only four saves between goalkeepers Elena Moya and Kristina Simpson, while also contending with nine fouls throughout the match.
