Southwest emerged victorious in a high-stakes game against Our Lady of the Lake, clinching a decisive 73-59 win. The home team displayed exceptional teamwork and sharp shooting, much to the delight of their fans.
From the outset, Southwest established their dominance, leading by two points in the first quarter and extending their advantage to 16 by halftime. Their 45.5% success rate from beyond the arc proved pivotal, with Briana Montoya spearheading the offensive onslaught. Montoya dazzled with an impressive 21 points, connecting on 7 of her 12 three-point attempts.
Milinda Arguellez provided solid support, contributing 15 points and maintaining a steady presence in the paint with five rebounds. Celina Celaya showcased her playmaking abilities, leading the team with eight assists while also adding 10 points.
On the defensive end, Southwest kept Our Lady of the Lake's offense in check. Despite Carlea Owens' stellar 22-point performance for the visitors, Southwest's balanced defense forced 19 turnovers, effectively stifling their opponents' momentum.
Southwest's resilience in rebounding, edging out Our Lady of the Lake 33-31, underscored their commitment on both ends of the court. Hailee Brandon and Beverly Bradley anchored the defense with six rebounds apiece, ensuring Southwest retained control of the boards.
The game was not without its challenges for Southwest, including struggles from the free-throw line, where they converted just 44.4% of their attempts. However, their stellar three-point shooting compensated for the lapse, as they outscored Our Lady of the Lake by 36 points from deep.
