HOBBS, N.M. -- The Southwest Mustangs men's soccer team earned a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Jarvis Christian on Saturday afternoon at Bob Moran Soccer Field in a back-and-forth match.

Southwest came out strong in the first half, striking twice within the opening 20 minutes. Yahir Chacon opened the scoring in the 12th minute with an unassisted goal, followed by Jose Attong in the 17th minute, who finished off a well-placed assist from Genesis Carillo to give the Mustangs a 2-0 lead.

Jarvis Christian responded with a goal in the 39th minute to cut the deficit before halftime. Later, the match was equalized in the 72nd minute off an assist, setting up a tense final stretch.

Southwest found the winner in the 78th minute when Hiram Chavez netted an unassisted goal, sealing the 3-2 win and sending the home crowd into celebration.

Goalkeeper Stephen Chairez anchored the defense with two saves, while the Mustangs outshot Jarvis Christian 9-7 and led in shots on goal 6-4. Despite Jarvis Christian earning seven corner kicks to Southwest's one, the Mustang defense held firm.
