TEXARKANA, Texas – The University of the Southwest men's basketball team couldn't overcome Texas A&M Texarkana's balanced scoring and second-half surge, falling 90-66 on Saturday afternoon at the Patterson Student Center. Despite strong individual efforts, turnovers and shooting struggles proved costly for the Mustangs.

Southwest (4-9, 1-6) battled early, trailing 44-31 at halftime, but the Eagles (8-3, 6-1) pulled away after the break with a 46-point second half. The Mustangs shot 33.3% from the field and 28% from three, while Texarkana connected at 42.5% overall and hit nine triples.

Donovan Holcombe led Southwest with 18 points and eight rebounds, while EJay Scroggins added 14 points and nine boards. Isaac Warhurst provided a spark off the bench with 13 points on 4-of-6 shooting from deep. Jayvian Lawson chipped in seven points, and Kevin Boone anchored the glass with 11 rebounds.

Southwest dominated the boards with 51 rebounds to Texarkana's 50, but couldn't capitalize, scoring just 14 second-chance points. The Mustangs committed 22 turnovers, leading to 28 Eagle points. Texarkana's depth and efficiency were key, as five players scored in double figures, led by Deovaunta Williams' 23 points and Jarren Cook's 16.

The Eagles controlled the paint (36 points inside) and pushed the pace for 14 fast-break points. Southwest showed fight late, hitting three triples in the final minutes, but Texarkana's largest lead of 27 points sealed the outcome.

Southwest returns to action on January 3, looking to build on its rebounding effort while improving offensive execution and ball security.
