SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Southwest women's basketball team fell 73–61 to Our Lady of the Lake University on Thursday evening in a hard-fought matchup that featured four ties and four lead changes.
Southwest opened strong, shooting 46.7 percent in the first quarter to take a 17–15 lead. Junior guard Seniya Wilson paced the attack early and finished with a team-high 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting, adding two steals. Karinna Ortiz contributed 17 points and three assists, while Michaela Ray posted a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds.
Despite the fast start, Southwest struggled in the second quarter as the Saints capitalized on turnovers and surged ahead 32–28 at halftime. The third quarter saw Southwest fight back with 22 points, but the Saints matched the effort and maintained their advantage.
Southwest shot 37.7 percent from the field and dominated the paint with 34 points, but 15 turnovers proved costly, allowing OLLU to score 20 points. The Saints closed the game with clutch free throws and three-point shooting to secure the win.
Southwest (4-4, 0-2)Â will look to bounce back in its next conference contest on Saturday, December 6, against Texas A&M San Antonio.
