METAIRIE, La. -- The University of the Southwest women's soccer team fell 10-0 to Xavier University Saturday afternoon at Lafreniere Park.
USW goalkeepers
Elena Moya and
Genesis Davila battled throughout the match with a combined eight saves. Moya was able to make five stops in nearly 60 minutes of play.
Southwest's best offensive moment came in the 39th minute when
Jasmin Gump fired the team's lone shot on goal, but Xavier's keeper was up to the task.
Xavier's attack proved relentless, led by Samira Roper, who netted three goals, including a penalty kick, in the first half.Â
Southwest's defense, anchored by
Jazmin Hernandez,
Lillianna Monroy and
Giselle Villa, worked tirelessly to slow Xavier's pace. The physical nature of the match was evident, with
Ivory Rico receiving a yellow card in the second half.
The loss drops Southwest to 0-8-0 overall and 0-2-0 in conference play, while Xavier improves to 3-2-1 overall and 2-0-0 in conference play.Â
