Box Score GOODWELL, Okla. — The University of the Southwest Mustangs fought to a hard-earned 0-0 draw against Oklahoma Panhandle State on Friday afternoon at Carl Wooten Field.
The Mustangs (1-1-1) outshot the Aggies 13-10 and held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks, applying consistent pressure throughout both halves. Freshman forward, Juan Perez, led the offensive charge with 4 shots, including 2 on goal, while Nicolas Amparan and Samuel Alcaraz each added multiple attempts that tested OPSU's goalkeeper.
Despite the offensive push, the Mustangs were unable to break through against a strong performance from OPSU keeper Aron Kanyai, who recorded 7 saves. On the other end, USW goalkeeper Jeremy Rueda was equally impressive, stopping 4 shots and commanding the box with confidence.
The match featured physical play from both sides, with a combined six yellow cards issued, three to each team, reflecting the intensity of the midfield battle.
Southwest's defense held firm, with starters Genesis Carillo, Jose Cobaleda, and Malachi Rodriguez playing the full 90 minutes and limiting OPSU's chances to mostly long-range efforts.
With the draw, the Mustangs continue to build momentum early in the season, as they prepare for conference play on September 25 at Louisiana State University Alexandria.
