Lady Mustangs Battle in Pair of Home Matches

HOBBS, N.M. – The University of the Southwest women's soccer team battled through a pair of home matches this week, falling to North American University, 3-2, on Thursday before dropping a 5-1 decision to Texas A&M University-Victoria on Saturday.

The Lady Mustangs found themselves in an early deficit against North American after the Stallions scored in the 36th minute to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.

Southwest quickly responded after the break, with Kaylynn Miller finding the back of the net just 27 seconds into the second half. Maureen Camacho assisted on the equalizer, bringing the match level at 1-1.

North American regained the lead in the 51st minute before adding another goal in the 82nd minute to extend its advantage to 3-1.

The Lady Mustangs continued to fight until the final whistle, as Eliza Lopez scored in the 88th minute to cut the deficit to one. Southwest generated several late chances but was unable to find another equalizer.

Genesis Davila recorded three saves in goal for the Lady Mustangs, while Southwest finished with seven shots and five corner kicks. Miller and Lopez accounted for Southwest's two goals.

Southwest 1, Texas A&M-Victoria 5

Southwest carried its fight into Saturday's matchup with Texas A&M-Victoria, striking first in the sixth minute.

Brooke Davis opened the scoring for the Lady Mustangs off an assist from Rozlynn Ramsey, giving Southwest an early 1-0 advantage.

The Jaguars answered with two goals before adding another in the 44th minute to take a 3-1 lead into halftime.

A&M-Victoria added two more goals in the second half, including one in the 53rd minute and another in the 83rd minute, to secure the 5-1 victory.

Elena Moya made nine saves in goal for Southwest while facing 16 shots from the Jaguars. The Lady Mustangs recorded five shots, with four landing on frame.

Despite the result, Southwest showed its ability to create opportunities early, scoring first against A&M-Victoria and continuing to battle throughout both matches. The Lady Mustangs will look to regroup and return to the win column in their next contest.
