PINEVILLE, La. — The University of the Southwest women's volleyball team battled Louisiana Christian University in back-to-back Red River Athletic Conference matches Friday and Saturday at H.O. West Fieldhouse, falling 3-0 in both contests.
The Lady Mustangs opened the weekend Friday night, dropping the first set 25-22 before Louisiana Christian took the second set 25-15. Southwest pushed back in the third set but ultimately fell 25-22.
Ruby Fraire led Southwest offensively with seven kills while Maddie Lewis added six and Harley Valdez finished with seven. Ashlet Figueroa recorded 10 assists, while Anasofia Chavez contributed seven assists and seven digs. Valdez also finished with nine digs, while the Lady Mustangs recorded 31 digs as a team.
Southwest returned to the court Saturday afternoon looking to bounce back. The Lady Mustangs came out strong, taking an early lead in the opening set and holding a 20-14 advantage before Louisiana Christian rallied to force a 24-24 tie. The Wildcats ultimately claimed the set 26-24.
The Lady Mustangs continued to battle in the second set, but Louisiana Christian pulled away late to take the set 25-21. Southwest again found itself in a competitive third set, leading 15-13 before the Wildcats responded with a late run to close out the match 25-19.
Aylani Washington paced Southwest on Saturday with 10 kills, while Valdez recorded seven and Fraire added six. Alicia Montoya finished with 15 assists and three service aces, while Chavez led the defensive effort with 13 digs. Washington also contributed 11 points, and Southwest finished with 36 digs and nine total blocks.
With the two results, Southwest moves to 2-8 overall and 2-8 in conference play.

The Lady Mustangs will look to regroup before returning to action next weekend.
