PLAINVIEW, Texas — The University of the Southwest closed out a midweek non-conference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon, facing a deep and explosive Wayland Baptist lineup. Despite flashes of offensive production and continued fight in both contests, the Mustangs dropped both games at Wilder Field.

Southwest struck first in the opener, jumping ahead 1–0 in the top of the first inning when Jadon Trujillo singled to left to score Tim Sedillo. The early momentum, however, was short-lived as Wayland Baptist responded with four runs in the bottom half and never relinquished control.
The Mustangs continued to chip away offensively. In the second, Southwest added another run on a fielder's choice by Colby Martinez, and in the fourth, Alesandro Morrison delivered the biggest swing of the day for Southwest, launching a two-run home run to left field to cut the deficit to 10–4.
Morrison finished the game with two RBIs, while Trujillo went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Alex Montiel also reached base twice and scored a pair of runs.
On the mound, Zane Rush gave Southwest valuable length in relief, throwing five innings with six strikeouts after taking over in the second inning.
Wayland Baptist used steady offense throughout, scoring in five different innings to secure the 12–4 decision.
Game Two: Wayland Baptist 18, Southwest 3
Game two proved challenging from the outset as Wayland Baptist erupted offensively, scoring 16 runs over the first three innings. Southwest continued to compete, answering with runs in the third and fourth innings.
Alesandro Morrison was again a bright spot, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs. He drove in Southwest's first run of the game with an RBI single in the third inning and added another RBI base hit in the fourth. Dong Joon Shin reached base twice, scoring two of the Mustangs' three runs on the afternoon.
Southwest plated two runs in the third inning on Morrison's single and an RBI groundout by Vyncent Chavez, then added its final run in the fourth as Morrison knocked in Shin once more.
Despite the final score, the Mustangs' bullpen provided innings late, with Marcus Sanchez and Ryland Pittman working to close out the contest and limit further damage.
Up Next
Southwest now turns its attention back to conference play, looking to regroup and build on the competitive at-bats and individual performances shown throughout the midweek action. The Mustangs will aim to carry that resilience forward as they return home and prepare for their next series against Texas A&M Texarkana on Friday and Saturday.
