James Voight

Coach James Voight enters his second season as head coach of the Mustangs  in 2022-2023. Before becoming the Head Coach  at USW, he spent 10 years as a Head High School Varsity Boys Basketball Coach. He compiled an overall record of 184 wins and 92 losses. He has had Head Coaching stops at Dexter High School (NM) 2011-14, Knox Central High School (KY) 2014-15, Hondo Valley High School (NM) 2015-16, Gallup High School (NM) 2016-18, and Alamogordo High School (NM) 2018-21. He won a State Championship at Dexter High School in 2014 and also has a Runner-up finish at Dexter High School in 2013. He was named 2014 Coach of the Year by NMPREPS. He has guided his teams to 6 Regular Season District Titles, 5 District Tournament Titles, and 8 playoff appearances. 
 
Voight graduated from University of the Southwest in 2011 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education. At USW he was a member of the Men’s Basketball Team from 2009-2011. In 2011 he was named to the NAIA Daktronics Academic All-American Team. He earned his Master’s Degree in Secondary Education from Eastern New Mexico University in 2014.
 
He and his wife, Iris, will reside in Hobbs with their two sons Julian (12) and James (2 months).
