WACO, Texas -- Nikki Sylvester of the University of the Southwest (N.M.) earned selection as the first Red River Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the 2012-13 season, covering the dates of Oct. 29-Nov. 4.
Sylvester, a senior guard from Lubbock, Texas, accounted for 23 points and 11 rebounds in an 81-72 win over the University of Northern New Mexico. She followed with 32 points as the Lady Mustangs lost their second game, 104-88, against Arizona Christian University. Sylvester connected on 20-of-39 field goal attempts and 8-of-15 from three-point range for the week. USW sits at 1-1 after its first two games.
Aliesha Carruthers of Wiley College (Texas) was also nominated for this week's award.
