Jasmine Stansell scored a team-high 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field, but Texas College edged the University of the Southwest 84-74 at the Maddox Student Life Center Thursday evening.

USW (1-9, 0-3 RRAC) started strong and held a 42-31 halftime lead.

However, TC (2-10, 1-2 RRAC) gradually chipped away at the Mustangs' lead.

After an even third quarter, the Steers out-scored the Mustangs 30-11 in the fourth quarter to close-out the contest.

Junior
Aaliyah Austin and sophomore
Mykal Thomas finished with identical stat lines, each scoring 11 points and grabbing in six rebounds. Junior
Catarina Garcia added eight points on 3-of-4 shooting from the floor. Stansell also hauled in eight rebounds.

In the first half USW shot 58 percent (18-of-31) from the floor, but cooled in the second and connected on 42 percent (12-of-28). However, the Mustangs still converted over 50 percent (30-of-59) of their shots for the game.

USW returns to action Saturday and play host to St. Thomas – Houston at the Maddox Student Life Center.
