Wheatfall Scores Career-High 28 Points; LSUS Defeats USW in Conference Opener

SHREVEPORT, La. – Junior Aaliyah Wheatfall scored a career-high 28 points, but No. 25-ranked LSU Shreveport defeated University of the Southwest 100-76 Thursday in the Red River Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
 
The first half was evenly matched and the Pilots (10-0, 1-0 RRAC) went into halftime with a 44-38 lead. However, LSUS outscored USW 56-38 in the second half to close out the game.
 
Junior Desiree Garza added 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field. Junior Aaliyah Austin scored 10 points.
 
In addition to her game-high 28 points, Wheatfall was 6-for-9 at the free-throw line and hauled in a team-high seven rebounds. She was also 11-of-15 from the field.
 
USW (1-7, 0-1 RRAC) finished the game 31-of-65 (47 percent) from the floor, while LSUS converted 51 percent (40-of-78) of their shots.
 
The Mustangs closeout their conference road trip to Louisiana Saturday at LSU Alexandria.
