TATUM, Texas – The University of the Southwest track and field team competed at the final day of the 2017 Red River Athletic Conference Track & Field Championships.
Alexandria Adams placed seventh in the 1500-meter run with a time of 5:29.55. As a team, the USW women placed third place out of seven teams with 69 points.
On the men's side,
Jonathan Moran finished seventh in the 5000-meters with a time of 18:48.94.
Wilson Letting placed eighth in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:24.69.
Charlie Quintero finished eighth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:13.67. As a team the Mustangs finished seventh with 40 points.
USW dominated in the throwing events on Friday.
The Mustangs finished first, second and third in the women's javelin throw.
Selena Ornelas won with a toss of 36.34 meters.
Chenoah Belen placed second with a throw of 29.10 meters and
Mikaela Flores earned third place with a toss of 27.90 meters.
Jamiah Evans earned gold in discus with a throw of 39.06 meters. Teammate
Shelby Bartley placed second with a toss of 38.93 meters and Ornelas finished fourth with a toss of 31.87 meters. Belen closed out the Mustangs scoring in the event and finished sixth with a toss of 30.52 meters.
Evans also placed first in the shot put with a heave of 11.60 meters, while Belen placed sixth with a toss of 10.52 meters.
On the men's side,
Reynaldo Coronado placed second in the shot put with heave of 12.09 meters.
Matthew Granger finished third in the discus with a throw of 36.61 meters, while Coronado placed fifth with a toss of 32.28 meters.
Colton Rice finished third in the javelin with a throw of 40.18 meters, while Coronado placed sixth with a heave of 36.40 meters.
