HOBBS, N.M. – Three student-athletes scored in double figures and University of the Southwest women's basketball handed Jarvis Christian a 67-55 defeat Saturday evening in Red River Athletic Conference action at the Maddox Student Life Center.
The Mustangs' defense, especially in the first half, put the Bulldogs on cold ice. USW held Jarvis to 20 percent (6-for-30) in the first half, meanwhile the Blue and Red shot 44 percent (12-for-27 in the opening half.
USW (3-12, 2-6 RRAC) outscored Jarvis (2-12, 1-6 RRAC) 27-18 in the fourth quarter and put the game out of reach.
Freshman
Jasmine Stansell scored 12 points and hauled in nine rebounds and nearly missed the double-double. Sophomore
Mykal Thomas added 12 points on 5-for-8 shooting from the field. Junior
Aaliyah Wheatfall helped out with 12 points and went 4-for-5 at the charity stripe.
Junior
Catarina Garcia scored eigtht points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out eight assists and nearly missed the triple-double. Sophomore
Naomi Solsberry scored nine points and grabbed seven rebounds.
USW returns to action Wednesday and play host to Langston Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Maddox Student Life Center.
