Mustangs fall in a heartbreaker to Sul Ross

The Mustangs ended their final home match before conference play with a thriller against Sul Ross. Even though it wasn't the outcome that they were looking for, there were still a lot of positives to take away from the game. The Mustangs were well balanced on the offensive end as nine out of the twelve players that played scored. The Mustangs shot 19-57 from the field for 33% which was one of their higher scoring nights percentage wise in the last few games. Defensively, they held Sul Ross to just 64  points and 34% from the field. The Mustangs have shown tremendous growth on both the offensive and defensive end in just ten games so far.

The Mustangs received 27 points off the bench. Mykal Thomas lead the way with 13 points on 5 of 8 from the field and 3 rebounds in just 14 minutes of action. The Mustangs were nearly identical in quarter points with Sul Ross throughout the game. Sul Ross managed to take and make some tough contested shots in the closing seconds of the game to pull out the win. Coach Cory's thoughts on tonight's contest were "Tonight was a tough loss! We had the lead for almost the entire game and just couldn't finish in the final two minutes. Turnovers, missed free throws and poor execution offensively down the stretch cost us the game. We played great defensively and I'm proud of the ladies because they worked hard the entire game. We will bounce back. I have seen a ton of improvement from these ladies since the first day of practice and I can't wait to get back in the gym".

The Mustangs return to action at Houston Baptist University on November 27th at 7 pm.
