The Mustangs opened up conference play with a tough road loss to Texas College. The first half showed great energy by both teams with USW going into halftime with the lead by a score of 27 to 25. The Mustangs were outscored in the third quarter 22 to 10. Low energy and turnovers in the first couple of Mustang possessions allowed Texas College to go on a run to open up the third. The Mustangs found themselves down by as many as 18 points in the fourth. They were able to get a couple of stops and scores to cut the lead down to 10 points with six minutes left in the ball game. The Mustangs were 25 of 40 from the free throw line for the game and shot 34% from the field to finish the game.
The Mustangs had four player in double figures Naomi Solsberry came off the bench to pour in 11 points in 24 minutes of action. Julia Norder poured in 10 points in 25 minutes. Catarina Garcia had 11 points in 29 minutes. Aaliyah Wheatfall lead everyone in scoring with 14 points in 35 minutes of action. Coach Cory's comments on the game were "Turnovers and execution cost us the game tonight. Texas College wanted the win more and it showed because they out worked us on both ends of the floor. I have to do a better job of coaching them up and keeping them focused if we want to be successful. We will get better and I'll keep busting my tail until we turn the corner".
The Mustangs will travel to Paul Quinn College on Saturday December 8th at 2 pm CST.
