TYLER, Texas – Four student-athletes scored in double digits and University of the Southwest men's basketball fought past Texas College 85-74 in Red River Athletic Conference action Thursday evening.
Junior
Ron'Quis Lewis led the way for the Mustangs with 21 points on 5-for-11 shooting from the field. The Oklahoma City, Oklahoma product grabbed 12 rebounds to secure the double-double. Lewis also went 11-for15 at the charity stripe.
With the game tied 41-41 at the halftime, USW (9-14, 5-7 RRAC) outscored Texas College (7-15, 2-10 RRAC) 41-30 in the second half. As a team, the Mustangs shot 46 percent (27-for-58) from the field.
Junior
Leroy Cox scored 17 points on 6-for-11 shooting from the field. The Chicago, Illinois native also went 3-for-4 from the three-point line. Senior
Marcelious Green added 13 points, while senior
Jeffrey Long helped out with 10 points while going a 4-for-4 at the free throw line.
The Mustangs dominated on the glass and outrebounded the Steers 38-30, including a 29-22 margin on the defensive boards.
Cedric Carson scored 19 points to lead Texas College.
USW returns to the hardwood Saturday at St. Thomas – Houston.
