HOBBS, N.M. – University of the Southwest baseball opens its Red River Athletic Conference portion of its schedule and hosts Jarvis Christian for a three-game series at Jake Williams Field.

The two teams are scheduled to compete Friday, March 2 at a noon doubleheader and return to the diamond Saturday, March 3 for a single nine-inning contest.

USW enters on a hard streak and have won nine of its past 10 games. Last weekend the Mustangs went 3-1 against quality NCAA Division II competition in Odessa, Texas. USW topped UTPB in 6-4 in a marathon 11-inning contest and followed that up with a 5-2 victory. The Red and Blue extended its winning streak to nine in a row with a 5-4 victory over Newman (Kansas) University. The Jets got the best of the Mustangs, 11-6, in game two of the series.

In non-conference play senior Ean Smith has been USW's most prolific weapon. The Las Cruces, New Mexico product is hitting a team-leading .357 to go along with 16 runs batted in.

On the mound, senior Axel Arrieta has been a consistent force. The El Paso, Texas native is 3-0 on the season with a 3.68 earned run average. He has struck out 26 batters, including a 12-stikeout effort February 10 versus Mid-America Christian, which was tagged as a no-decision.
