HOBBS, NM---The USW Men's Soccer program played in their final regular home game of the season on Saturday as they hosted conference rival Our Lady of the Lake University. The Mustangs entered Saturday's match with a 2-2 record in conference and a chance to move themselves up in the standings.
However the OLLU Saints had other ideas and defeated the Mustangs 1-0. The lone goal was scored by Samuel Villegas in the 35th minute off an assist by Noberto Lira.
"I feel like as a team we are going through that same slump we were going through before where the ball is not going in. OLLU scored on us and it seemed that's when things started to go south. After that goal we couldn't get our rhythm back and we couldn't play the way we should have played. Unfortunately we have a bigger mountain to climb. As we look at the standings, we will have to win out and have other teams lose to have any chance at tournament play. This week's games were crucial to win because we had the opportunity to control our on destiny. Now we have to win out and hope for other teams to lose." said Head Coach
Edgar Negrete.
The Mustangs honored 3 seniors on Saturday:
Brandon Archer, Alan Ibbara and Kerry Dessalines.
USW is on the road for the remainder of the season as they take on Paul Quinn College on Thursday and Texas A&M-Texarkana on Saturday October 19th. The Mustangs finish their regular season out by traveling to Louisiana and playing LSU-S on October 24th and LSU-A on October 26th.
